Top 10 Reasons to Live in Hingham

With a change of seasons just around the corner, and the fall market upon us, I thought I’d take a moment to list the Top 10 Reasons to live in Hingham. This is a nice reminder for those who live in town and something to consider if you’re thinking of moving here.

#1 – Hingham is a Great Location

We’re only 20 miles from Boston. This not only makes for a smooth commute if you were to work in the city, but makes all of the amenities that Boston has to offer, such as the thriving theatre district, or the shopping on Newbury Street close and accessible.

#2 – We’re Highly Rated

Boston Magazine rated Hingham as one of the best places to live, specifically citing our beautiful waterfront property and award-winning restaurants.

#3 – Hingham’s Home Prices are on the Rise

In the past 12 months Hingham has seen a 2.9% increase in overall home values. There was a 5.7% increase in the last quarter alone. When many areas of the country are seeing double digit declines, our homes are holding their values and increasing.

#4 – Our Town in Rich in Culture

There’s something to be said for living in a town that has deep connections to our country’s history. Founded in 1635, Hingham is home of Old Ship Church (1681), the oldest continuously used house of worship and New England’s only remaining 17th century Puritan meeting house.

#5 – There’s Tons to Do

No matter where you live in town, you’re close to the center that is steeped with shops, amazing dining options and a warm inviting classic New England feel. During World War II Eleanor Roosevelt wrote, “This is America” which used Hingham as an embodiment of the typical American town in wartime. After visiting Hingham Roosevelt said, “This is the most beautiful Main Street in America.” Our Main Street still looks today much as it did then.

#6 – We Have Low Crime

There’s not much more to say than that!

#7 – Hingham has Great Schools

Hingham Public Schools spend $9749 per student. The average school expenditure in the United States is $5678. We invest in education and our children’s future.

#8 – Hingham is a Great Place to Raise a Family

According to census data, 38 percent of house children under 18, and 66 percent of homes are married couples living together.

#9 – We Have a Strong Community

World’s End Park in Hingham Harbor offers a great place to enjoy a picnic on a summer day, go for a hike at gorgeous Stodder Neck Park, or stop by the Hingham Community Center offering more than ninety organized classes and activities, special events, and educational workshops throughout the year. From infants to senior citizens, the Center has something to offer for everyone.

#10 – Again, Location

We have easy access to the cape, the shores of Maine, the mountains of New Hampshire, the bright lights of New York City and Logan International Airport if you want to travel further. Being centrally located to these places gives you the freedom to convenience to explore locally and even internationally.
